Bobby Hill

Coach Bobby Hill is a USA Hockey Level 5 certified coach having coached ice hockey at the High School, Junior Gold, and Youth hockey levels for over 20 years. He is a graduate of Penn State University where he played hockey and earned a degree in Finance and Business Law.

When asked a simple question on why he coaches and plays hockey, Coach Hill responded, “Ladies love me, guys want to be me. I lace up the skates, put on the gloves, strap on the helmet, and step onto the ice and nothing else matters. It doesn't matter that I had a bad day my world is absolutely perfect on the ice. Faceoffs, goals, assists, overtime, cold rinks, early mornings, late nights, breakaways, going top cheese, countless hours of practice, bag skates, puking, thousands of dollars, dangling d-men, end to end rushes, big hits, broken twigs, new skates, packing bombs, dropping the mits, wheelin' broads, coaches, adding the letter y to the end of everyone's last name, the word f**k , pick up, tape to tape sauce, let downs, and miracles. Late nights, early mornings, Friday nights, Saturday evenings, broken bones, missing teeth, torn muscles and deep bruises. I skate through it all. Because I live off adrenaline, because the game frees my spirit, because the party in the room is second to none, because I’m invincible once I step on the ice, because one shot can make me smile all night, sniping the twine, top shelf where momma keeps the peanut butter, the rattling of the boards, the feel of the puck, and skates carving into the ice is a rhythm to live by, because its possible to skate fast enough to leave all your worries behind. Sweat is the cologne of accomplishment. It's never been for the money, it's not for the girls, and it's not for the fame. 'The Boys' play because we love it!” Coach Hill continues to play hockey locally, and can most frequently be found playing shinny on the lakes and ponds of Minnesota.

Coach Travis 2.png

Travis Winegarner

Travis Winegarner is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach and looking forward to his first season as an assistant coach with the Junior Elite squad. His goal is get to know each of the players and develop their skills alongside Coach Hill. He is currently the Head coach of a Wayzata Trojan (Minnesota) PeeWee team and Assistant Coach for the Wayzata 15U Girls team. He has been a Head coach in the Wayzata Association for over 8 years. He has played hockey his entire life and is extremely passionate about the game and feels honored to be apart of the Junior Elite team.

After playing hockey at Brainerd High School in Brainerd, MN, the town narrowly voted to erect a 17th statute of Paul Bunyan instead of Travis. Sadden but not discouraged Travis continued his hockey career at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and the United States Development League. His hockey skills quickly lead him to coaching youth hockey in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. There he met the District 3 peewee hockey team perennial losers who finish at the bottom of the league standings year after year. They are shut out every game and lose by at least five goals. The players learn Travis was once a player for the Hawks and the team in the same league but left hockey because of the embarrassment that followed after a failed attempt at a penalty shot at the end of regulation causing them to lose in over time costing them a peewee championship. With the help of Coach Travis and a desperately needed infusion of cash and equipment from Travis bio-medical device firm firm, the players learn the fundamentals of the sport. Soon enough the District 3 team now christened the Mallards after Travis’ employer Gerald Mallardsworth start winning games and manage to make the playoffs, reaching the finals and adding new player Adam Banks, an ex-Hawk who is a talented player and an asset for the Mallards. Fittingly, the Mallards win the title game on a penalty shot. After this epic run, Brainerd, MN voted to install a massive Babe the Blue Ox statue next to the 17th Paul Bunyan statue.
